Born Days is Chicago based singer, songwriter, and producer Melissa Harris known for making her own brand of cinematic darkwave electronic pop that evokes all things dreamy and apocalyptic.
Harris uses reverb-drenched vocals, computer glitch inspired synthesizers, and a variety of sampled drums and drum machines to produce lush hazy soundscapes that are both upbeat and dark. Harris writes, records, and produces everything in her little DIY studio she built in her dining room.
Born Days’ music is heavily inspired by the synthesizers modeled in the late 70s and early 80s, drums sampled from early 90s house and hiphop, and the iconic sound of the Rhodes Wurlitzer and the Hammond organ.
After Harris’ debut self-produced EP Be True was released in 2017 it garnered praise from sources such as DIY Magazine, Bandcamp, Impose Magazine, The Deli, Destroy and Exist, Surviving the Golden Age, and the Chicago Tribune and earned her comparisons to the likes of Princess Chelsea, EMA, and Lana Del Ray.
She would spend the next two years playing live sets around the Midwest with local, national, and international artists. During this time Harris also began working on organizing her own record label Rain Heart Records and producing the new music that is the Where We Live EP.
Where We Live is Due out in the Fall of 2019.
PRESS FROM “BE TRUE”:
“Lush, dreamy dark pop from Chicago that most certainly evokes the city’s grey, humid summer haze.” - Bandcamp
“Chicago's Melissa Harris is a self-taught solo electronic artist who goes by the moniker Born Days under which she creates a type of dystopian electronic pop music, provoking notions which flirt with darkness and apocalyptic ambience” - Destroy and Exist
“Born Days’s music exhibits some of the most keen synth pop styles that point toward the latest developments in where electronic based developments in composition might be headed. Melissa arranges a wondrous blizzard wind of keys that sound like pure lights made in a harmonic congress between luminescence & audio elements.” - Impose Magazine
“Though the pianos tinkle delicately along, white picket fences and singing skylarks dotting the landscape, there’s a love of darkness at the heart of everything Melissa Harris does.” - DIY Magazine
“A mixture of droning synths, slow drums, and reverbed vocals, the track deftly mixes shoegaze and synth pop to create something that sounds somewhere between EMA and Lana Del Rey.” - Surviving the Golden Age
